Characteristics of the Project:

The agroindustrial study’s basic aim was to identify and generate actions to promote development in the province of Pichincha of the industry of preparing agricultural inputs locally, while encouraging production of the raw material required for such industries, by improving and expanding the respective areas of production.

The scope for the study was defined as follows: conducting a study for a Dairy Program, a Swine Program and a Feed Production Center.

The Dairy Program included two components:

a. Improving cattle (at the prefeasibility level): to improve production and productivity, in both milk and meat production. The foundation of this plan is an array of recommendations regarding cattle handling and feeding, through systematic, organized assistance. Small ranchers received special attention.

b. Dairy Processing (at the feasibility and general design level): to identify, analyze and evaluate the the possibilities of establishing a dairy processing plant in the Santo Domingo de los Colorados zone. Architectural blueprints, structural pre-designs, water supply and sewerage designs (treating effluent water) and electrical designs, and the construction budget were prepared.

The Swine Program was divided into two projects:

a. Swine Production Center (feasibility and general design): to identify the most appropriate strategies to increase hog production in the Santo Domingo de los Colorados area, and to identify an alternative strategy (grower-breeder system) to better adapt to current socioeconomic conditions. Architectural blueprints, structural pre-designs, water supply and sewerage designs (treating effluent water) and electrical designs, and the construction budget were prepared.

b. Hog Slaughterhouse (feasibility and general design): to redesign the existing abattoir in the city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados, including optimizing the slaughtering system, designing water supply and sewerage, steam system, refrigeration and effluent water treatment plant.

Implementing the Feed Production Center (at the prefeasibility level) included:
a. Feed mixing plant

b. Producing pre-mixtures for feeds
